I’m such a hella cool mom…I let my kids play their music in my car (psst it ain’t your momma’s music).

Let’s talk F bombs, and sexual innuendo. Wow. I’m talking remember when Darling Nikki by Prince came out? That was one song and now it’s the norm.  Music is music, so what do you do? You can’t hide it, they will find it.

I’m driving in my car with my daughter and her friend (tweeners) and a song comes on about blow jobs. I make a weird face and side eye my daughter. And I’m like maybe not this one. They skip it. We’ve got the big names like Doja Cat, you know what I’m talking about. It’s catching, edging, makes them feel more grown up. Even Olivia Rodrigez is dropping F bombs. My cousin has a good motto I think, I let them curse if it’s in a song. They can sing all the lyrics.

Now my son on the other hand is a full-blooded human teen, into rap and hip-hop. I am trying to relate and absorb what he’s influenced by. Guns, money, drugs, women, there’s a few with a good message in there and some good old school stuff.  I don’t WANT to judge. In fact he’s writes and records his own music. Talks about love, money, cars, da boyz, bling, some drugs, break ups, lots of drip. Actually proud of him and I really do like his tunes.

What about when that cursing slips into how they talk to me, around me, at me?  My son gives sailors a bad name and my daughter, well she isn’t too far behind. I don’t curse too much in front of them and I try to stomp it out, but the more I do, the more they know how to get me. Is this a battle worth fighting? Cursing at me or anyone is the line in the sand.
